Stump Removal & Grinding

A-1 Tree and Stump Service can remove any stump, anywhere

The grinding typically is 8 or so inches below grade, although, A-1 Tree and Stump Service is capable of any depth. Removal of stumps is highly recommended, because stumps can attract pest like termites, bees, carpenter ants, etc., which then have the potential to migrate to your home. Also, sooner or later in time, you may tire from trying to avoid these stumps with the lawn-mower, tripping over them, bumping into them with your car, or just from their unsightly appearance! A-1 Tree and Stump Service can go out on all the roots as well as the stump itself.

What You Should Know About Stump Grinding

  • Machines access any stump, any size, anywhere.
  • Width of machines are 35 inches (typical backyard gates are 36 inches or wider).
  • Machine turns your stump and roots into mulch and this mulch remains onsite. (Almost like sawdust).
  • Mulch can be used for an assortment of things. (For Example: Weed-barrier, flowerbed mulch, compost, etc.).
  • Sprinkler Lines are sometimes difficult to determine what direction they run. Sprinkler line damage is at the customer's risk, but is carefully evaluated for prevention prior to grinding.
  • If your stump is in a city right of way (on the street side of your sidewalk), an ISA Certified Arborist is required to remove this stump.
  • Many risks are associated with stump grinding.

How Much Does Stump Grinding Cost?

The cost of stump removal grinding is dependent on numerous factors. A-1 Tree and Stump Service has a $75.00 minimum charge; the relevant factors listed below will determine your cost.

  • Type of Stump you have (birch, maple, pine, fir, cottonwood, aspen, etc...).
  • Age of Stump (an old stump that is rotten will grind out very quickly opposed to a fresh cut tree stump).
  • Diameter of the Stump (measure from one edge of the stump to the other, from the center).
  • Root system to be removed (some stump have an extensive root system, some stumps only require the stump itself to be ground out).
  • Accessibility, front yard, backyard, tight quarters (we are highly equipped to handle any stump, although, the tougher the accessibility, the more time is taken per stump).
  • Degrees of clean-up after stump grinding (grind and Leave - grind/mound/rake-up - grind and complete clean-up).
  • Hazards to avoid, the stump grinders tend to throw debris while grinding the stumps, any hazards such as windows, cars, etc., will increase stump removal cost.
  • Underground hazards such as underground utilities (power, cable, sprinkler lines, telephone, etc...) can be costly repairs and precautions must be taken to avoid damage.
  • Soil conditions: This is the most deciding factor of stump removal cost. Rocky soil increases the potential for damage from flying debris and are damaging to the expensive carbide teeth on our equipment.
